Alliteration - the commencement of two or more stresses syllables of a word group either with the same consonant sound or sound group.

Example: "Once upon a midnight dreary while I pondered weak and weary."

Allusion - a passing or causal reference; an incidental mention or something, either directly or by implication.

Example: "Don't act like a Romeo in front of her."

Amplification - the state of being amplified, expansion of a statement as for rhetorical purpose.

Example: "In my hunger after ten days of rigorous dieting i saw visions of ice cream -- mountains of creamy, luscious ice cream dripping with gooey syrup and calories."

Anacoluthon - a construction involving a break in grammatical sequence.

Example: "I was at my window - just luck, that was."

Anadiplosis - repetition in the first part of a clause or sentence of a prominent word from the latter part of the preceding clause or sentence, usually with a change or extension of meaning. 

Example: "He has used “misfortune” twice to bring home to his readers the main idea he is discussing which is that misfortune is always unpredictable."
